Part 9: The Decoy

"You think you’re smart, girl?" Silas shouted, his voice echoing in the vast, empty corridor. "You’re just a spoiled brat playing with fire!"

Harper crouched behind a structural pillar, her heart rate steady. She hit the breaker switch. Darkness swallowed the room. She heard Silas stop. She heard the click of his safety. She didn't scream. She didn't hide. She moved. She navigated the dark like a predator who had lived there her entire life. When Enzo and his men burst through the doors, they didn't find a woman huddled in a corner. They found the end of a nightmare.

She stepped into the center of the corridor, her silhouette stark against the flashing red lights of the alarm. Silas spun around, his gun shaking, but he was blinded by the strobe effect of the alarms. Harper stood her ground, watching as Enzo and his security team descended like a storm, disarming Silas and pinning him to the floor. The relief that washed over her was so total it felt like drowning.
