Chapter 15 - The Only Empire Worth Keeping

Victor’s heart stopped.

"You... you tore them up?" he choked out, his voice cracking with an overwhelming wave of emotion.

"I didn't want a billionaire who prioritized his empire over his family," Nora said, reaching up with both hands, gently cupping his rough, sun-tanned cheeks. Her thumbs brushed across the high cheekbones that had once looked so cold, now radiating warmth. "I wanted a partner. I wanted a father who would fight for his children. I wanted the man who carved two rocking horses with his bare hands."

Victor let out a broken, shuddering sob, wrapping his powerful arms around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest.

Nora buried her face in his neck, breathing in the scent of pine, salt, and the true, uncorrupted soul of her husband.

Victor lifted her off her feet, burying his face in her hair, weeping tears of pure, unadulterated redemption. "I will spend every second of every day proving to you that you made the right choice, Nora. I swear on my life. I swear on our children."

"I know you will," Nora whispered, kissing his cheek, then his jaw, and finally pressing her lips against his in a deep, passionate kiss that washed away five months of sorrow, betrayal, and ice.

Outside, the coastal fog rolled gently over the cliffs, wrapping the cottage in a quiet, protective blanket of peace.

Later that night, the two mahogany cribs sat side by side beneath the open window of the nursery, the gentle sound of the Atlantic waves drifting into the room.

Leo slept on his stomach, his thumb tucked securely in his mouth, his breathing deep, clear, and steady. Mia was curled around her white plush rabbit, smiling in her sleep.

Standing between the cribs, Victor had his arm wrapped securely around Nora’s shoulders, pulling her close against his side. Nora rested her head against his chest, listening to the steady, calm beat of his heart.

Victor looked down at his sleeping children, then turned his gaze to the radiant, beautiful woman beside him.

He had lost his high-rise towers. He had walked away from billions in corporate assets. He had given up the power that once made an entire city tremble at his name.
