Chapter 7 - The Safe Deposit Box in Geneva: Unearthing Mother’s True Last Will and Testament

While the wedding hall dissolved into absolute anarchy, Marcus Vance walked to the grand podium at the front of the altar, tapping the microphone to cut through the rising clamor of the guests, reporters, and trembling socialites.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Marcus announced, his voice booming through the cathedral ceilings. "The forged death certificate is merely the surface of this enterprise. The real motive behind the attempted assassination of Caroline Mercer lies in a secure vault beneath the Rue du Rhône in Geneva, Switzerland."
Marcus reached back into his leather case and pulled out a notarized Swiss banking certificate, along with a high-resolution photograph of a handwritten document sealed in red wax.
"Eight years ago," Marcus continued, "before Eleanor Mercer passed away, she knew her younger daughter’s psychopathic tendencies. Eleanor knew Juliette had been stealing from family trusts since she was sixteen. She knew Juliette was incapable of running the Mercer shipping logistics empire."
I stepped up beside Marcus, looking down at my sister, who was still huddled on the floor, her wedding dress ruined by dirt and crushed flower petals.
"Our mother didn't leave fifty percent of the company to you, Juliette," I said, my voice cutting through the hall. "She left ninety percent of the voting shares to me, with ten percent placed in a non-transferable spendthrift trust for your living expenses—conditional upon you maintaining a clean criminal record."
The silence in the room deepened.
"The only way Juliette could bypass that condition," Marcus explained to the crowd and the cameras, "was if Caroline died without an heir before her twenty-fifth birthday. In that event, a legacy clause allowed the entire estate to revert to the surviving sibling without probate oversight."
"That's why the fire was set on October 13th," I said, staring into Juliette’s wide, terrified eyes. "Twelve hours before my twenty-fourth birthday. You were running out of time. The Swiss bank was preparing to execute Mother’s sealed will on my twenty-fifth birthday, which would have permanently locked you out of the corporate treasury."
Juliette began to shake uncontrollably. Her entire life—her wealth, her social standing, her luxury penthouses, her designer wardrobe—had been built entirely on a stolen foundation that was now crumbling beneath her feet.
"You thought Dr. Thorne and I couldn't reach Switzerland," I continued. "You thought my signature was dead. But three weeks ago, with the assistance of the Swiss Federal Banking Commission and Detective Vance, I walked into the Union des Banques Suisses in Geneva. I pressed my thumb onto the biometric scanner. I provided the DNA sample that verified my identity beyond any legal doubt."
Marcus held up a heavy document bearing the gold seal of the Swiss Federal Court.
"As of 6:00 AM this morning," Marcus declared, "all global assets belonging to Mercer Holdings, including the private accounts of Juliette Mercer and Douglas Mercer, have been frozen by international court order. Every credit card, every yacht, every corporate jet, and every offshore account has been seized pending the outcome of the criminal indictment for attempted murder, grand larceny, and corporate fraud."
Juliette let out an unearthly, animalistic shriek. She threw herself forward, clawing at the air, trying to reach the documents in Marcus’s hand.
"It's mine!" she screamed, her voice cracking into hysteria. "I worked for this! I earned this! You were always the favorite! You were always the perfect one! I deserve this company!"

"You deserve a cell, Juliette," I said quietly.
Two uniformed state troopers stepped onto the altar, their handcuffs gleaming under the crystal chandeliers.
