Chapter 15 - The Queen of the Rossi Syndicate and the Morning Sun

Two years later.

Late summer in upstate New York.

The fifty acres surrounding the Rossi estate were no longer a dead winter wasteland; they were lush, vibrant, and alive with blooming roses, weeping willows, and emerald green lawns.

The electrified fencing remained, and the guards still patrolled the perimeter with vigilant eyes, but inside the gates, the darkness had been replaced by life.

Sarah stood on the sweeping stone terrace overlooking the gardens, holding a cup of herbal tea.

She wore a flowing, lavender sundress that fluttered gently in the warm afternoon breeze.

Her brown hair fell in soft, loose waves over her shoulders, catching the golden sunlight.

The scars on her shoulder and back had faded into pale, silvery lines—reminders of a battle won, not a tragedy endured.

Down on the lawn, eight-year-old Leo was running with a golden retriever puppy, laughing hysterically as the dog chased a red frisbee across the grass.

Leo was tall now, healthy, and full of bright energy, excelling in his private academy and surrounded by friends.

A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around Sarah’s waist from behind.

Gabriel pulled her back against his broad chest, resting his chin gently on her shoulder.

He pressed a soft kiss to the silver scar on her collarbone.

“What are you thinking about, my queen?” Gabriel murmured, his deep voice vibrating warmly against her back.

Sarah smiled, leaning her head back against his chest.

“I was thinking about the first day I met you,” she confessed.

“When I was scrubbing that Persian rug in the dining room, terrified to even make eye contact with you.”

Gabriel chuckled, a rich, rumbling sound.

“I noticed you every single day, Sarah,” he admitted quietly.

“Even when I pretended you were just a shadow. I noticed how gentle you were. How you made this cold, cursed house feel like a home. I just didn't deserve you yet.”

“And now?” Sarah turned in his embrace, wrapping her arms around his neck and looking up into the slate eyes that now held only warmth, devotion, and fierce love for her.

Gabriel reached down, his large hand gently coming to rest over Sarah’s stomach, where a slight, beautiful swell had begun to show beneath the lavender silk of her dress.

A new life.

A daughter, due in the winter.

“Now,” Gabriel whispered, his eyes shining with deep emotion as he leaned down to capture her lips in a sweet, lingering kiss, “I spend every single breath thanking God that the invisible maid chose to stay and rule this kingdom with me.”

From the lawn below, Leo’s voice carried up to the terrace on the warm summer wind:

“Mom! Dad! Look! The puppy caught the frisbee!”

Sarah and Gabriel laughed together, holding each other tight as the morning sun washed over the Rossi empire, bright, unbreakable, and forever free of shadows.

THE END
