Chapter 15 - Where the Golden Sun Breaks Through the Adirondack Pines

Four years later.
The autumn air in the Adirondack Mountains was clean, sharp, and fragrant with the scent of cedar, pine needles, and burning birch wood.
I sat on the wide porch of my lakeside timber cabin, holding a hot mug of coffee, watching the golden sunlight dance across the calm blue waters of the lake.
Lying at my feet was Bruno.
His muzzle was gray now, his movements a bit slower from the old wounds and the passage of time, but his golden eyes were bright, peaceful, and content.
Across the green meadow near the shoreline, a six-year-old boy named Leo—Mateo and Sofia’s youngest son—was running through the fallen orange leaves, laughing as he tossed a tennis ball into the grass.
"Bruno! Come get it, boy!" Leo called out, his joyful voice echoing through the quiet valley.
Bruno looked up at me, his tail thumping twice against the porch boards, waiting for my nod.
"Go on, Brun," I said with a smile. "Go play."

The old war-dog trotted down the wooden steps, bounding across the sunlit grass toward the laughing child, leaving every shadow of the past far behind in the golden light.
