Chapter 15 - Clean Hands, New Dawn (The End)

One year later.

The sound that woke me on this bright Saturday morning was not a gunshot, nor

the sharp ping of a falling fork.

It was the laughter of children echoing up from the courtyard of our brownstone

overlooking the Brooklyn promenade.

I stepped out onto the wide, sunlit balcony in a soft linen robe, holding a

steaming mug of black tea.

Down below, the Marcus Valli Maritime Center was holding its inaugural

graduation ceremony.

Hundreds of young men and women in crisp white uniforms tossed their caps into

the clear blue sky.

Standing on the podium was Vincent Rizzo, proudly pinning a gold medal onto the

lapel of the top honors student.

Behind me, two strong, warm arms wrapped gently around my waist.

Dominic pulled me back against his chest, resting his chin against my hair.

His shoulder had healed completely, leaving only a faint silver line beneath his

white linen shirt.

“You're up early,” he whispered into my ear.

“I wanted to watch the graduation,” I said, leaning my head back against his

shoulder.

He kissed my temple softly.

“Look at the water,” Dominic pointed toward the harbor.

The Elena, a state-of-the-art zero-emission container ship, was gliding silently

past the Statue of Liberty out toward the open Atlantic.

Its hull was painted crisp white, bearing the emblem of our family foundation.

No hidden compartments.

No dirty offshore shell companies.

No men vanishing into dark alleys.

Just honest trade, honest work, and a name that commanded respect without a drop

of fear.

Dominic turned me around in his arms.

He looked down at me with an expression of boundless, quiet adoration.

He reached down and gently placed his palm over my stomach.

Beneath the soft fabric of my robe, a new life was growing.

A child who would never know the sound of gunfire in a dining room.

A child who would carry the Valli and Salvatore names with pride, dignity, and

clean hands.

“Happy anniversary, Elena,” Dominic murmured, his eyes shining in the morning

sun.

I smiled, wrapping my arms around his neck, pulling him down into a deep, loving

kiss.

“Happy anniversary, Dominic.”

The city stretched out before us beneath an endless blue sky—peaceful, vibrant,

and entirely ours.

The game was over.

The truth had won.

And the new dawn had finally arrived.
