Chapter 15 - The Ocean Never Forgets—And Neither Did He

On a warm evening in late September, exactly one year after Caitlyn had stolen the gold brooch from the glass cabinet, the bells of St. Jude’s Chapel rang out across Narragansett Bay for the first time in thirty years.
The chapel was filled with light, laughter, and over one hundred guests—dockworkers, ship captains, business leaders, and the entire medical team that had saved Helen’s life.
There were no armed guards at the doors. No whispered threats in the shadows.
Caitlyn walked down the stone aisle wearing a flowing gown of ivory silk, her arm linked securely through her mother’s. Helen walked proudly beside her daughter, her head held high, her eyes shining with tears of absolute joy.
At the altar stood Santino.
He wore a tailored midnight-blue tuxedo, his eyes fixed on Caitlyn as though the rest of the universe had ceased to exist. When she reached his side, he took her hands in his, his fingers warm and steady, and looked into her eyes with an eternal, unshakable devotion.
Father Thomas stood before them once more, a broad, happy smile creasing his weathered face.
"One year ago, you two came to this chapel in secret, bound by necessity and trial," Father Thomas said. "Today, you stand before God, your family, and your community to renew those vows not out of duty... but out of an enduring, perfect love."
Santino looked at Caitlyn, his voice ringing clear and resonant through the sunlit chapel.
"Caitlyn," Santino spoke from the depths of his soul. "You walked into my darkness when everyone else ran from it. You saved my life on the bridge, you healed my broken family, and you gave me a future I never believed I was worthy of having. I give you my life, my name, and my heart, without reservation, for all the days I walk this earth."
Tears of pure happiness spilled down Caitlyn’s cheeks as she squeezed his hands.
"Santino," Caitlyn replied, her voice clear, steady, and filled with immense love. "You gave my mother her life back. You gave me a home when I was an exile. You showed me that behind the armor of a king was the gentlest, bravest man I have ever known. I choose you today, tomorrow, and for every tomorrow that follows."
Father Thomas raised his hands in blessing. "What God has joined together, let no man put asunder. Santino, kiss your bride."
Santino pulled Caitlyn into his arms and kissed her with a deep, passionate intensity that brought the entire chapel to its feet in thunderous, joyful applause.
Later that night, long after the music and dancing had faded from the grand ballroom, Santino and Caitlyn walked down to the private stone bluff overlooking the dark, moonlit waters of the Atlantic.
The ocean breeze was cool, carrying the familiar, comforting scent of salt and cedar.
Santino wrapped his dark coat around Caitlyn’s shoulders, holding her close against his chest as they watched the moonlight create a path of shimmering silver across the black water.
"Do you remember what you said to me at the clinic on Chalkstone Avenue?" Santino asked softly, resting his cheek against her hair.
Caitlyn smiled against his lapel. "I told you that nine hundred dollars was enough for the week."
Santino laughed—a rich, deep sound that melted into the Atlantic night.
"You sold a forty-thousand-dollar heirloom for nine hundred dollars," Santino murmured, kissing the top of her head. "And in return, Caterina... you bought my entire soul."
Caitlyn turned in his embrace, looking up into the eyes of the man who owned the sea, the man who had torn down an empire of blood to build a sanctuary of love for her and her mother.
She reached up, took his face in her hands, and kissed him under the endless canopy of stars.
"Best investment I ever made, Mr. Ferraro," she whispered.

And there, on the high cliffs of Newport where the waves met the stone, their story began anew—a story written not in ledgers of blood or debts of gold, but in the quiet, unbreakable promise of two souls who had found home in each other's arms.
