Chapter 10 - Diane Attempts To Play The Victim On Social Media

Narcissists do not accept defeat easily. Even with the IRS breathing down her neck and her husband having a nervous breakdown at the kitchen table, Diane Mercer believed she could manipulate public opinion to force my surrender.
On Thursday morning, Diane launched a desperate smear campaign.
She posted a heavily edited video on Facebook and Instagram. Sitting on her sofa with no makeup, holding a tissue, Diane put on an Academy Award-worthy performance of a heartbroken grandmother.
“My dear friends and community,” Diane wept into the camera. “I am speaking out today with a broken heart. My son Mark and our beloved family have become victims of an unimaginable betrayal. My daughter-in-law, Eleanor, has suffered a severe psychological breakdown. Following a minor family misunderstanding over a birthday cake, she has illegally locked my son out of his home, alienated our sweet grandchildren Emma and Lily from their loving family, and is using her vast inheritance to wage financial warfare against our local small business.”
She went on for eight minutes, painting me as a vindictive, unstable heiress who was destroying a respectable family out of petty spite. She begged the community to boycott Vance Holdings and demanded that Child Protective Services investigate me for parental alienation.
Within two hours, the post gained hundreds of shares among Diane’s country club circle. Friends of Mark began sending me hostile text messages, accusing me of cruelty.
I sat in my office at Vance Holdings, watching the video on my tablet alongside Marcus Sterling.
“Should we file an immediate emergency injunction for defamation and libel?” Marcus asked, his pen poised over a legal pad.
I smiled calmly, shaking my head. “No, Marcus. Let her dig the grave a little deeper. Release the living room security footage.”
Diane had forgotten one critical detail about the Oakridge estate.
Two years prior, Mark had insisted on installing a high-definition, multi-angle smart security system throughout the entire ground floor to protect his expensive art collection. The system recorded high-fidelity audio and crystal-clear 4K video, uploading all footage directly to a secure, encrypted Vance Holdings cloud server.
At 2:00 PM, Marcus Sterling’s public relations team released an unedited, three-minute clip of Emma’s tenth birthday party to every local news outlet, social media platform, and city community group.
The video was devastatingly clear.
It showed Emma standing happily by her pink birthday cake.
It captured Diane’s venomous, contorted face marching toward the child.
It recorded the loud, sickening crash as Diane flipped the glass stand, shattering the cake across the floor and spraying frosting onto Emma’s clothes.
It captured Diane’s exact words in crisp surround sound: “No son, no celebration.”
And finally, it captured Mark crossing his arms, looking at his crying daughter, and declaring: “She’s right.”
The internet’s response was instantaneous, explosive, and merciless.
Within three hours, Diane’s tearful victim video was completely drowned out by a tsunami of public outrage. The surveillance footage went viral, amassing over four million views by nightfall.
The comment sections beneath Diane’s social media accounts exploded with tens of thousands of scathing condemnations:
“This woman is an absolute monster! Look at that poor little girl!”
“The husband standing there saying ‘she’s right’ is the most spineless thing I’ve ever witnessed in my life.”
“She smashed a ten-year-old child’s cake on purpose and then cried victim online?! Lock her up!”
By 6:00 PM, the Oakridge Country Club’s board of directors held an emergency meeting and voted unanimously to revoke Diane and Richard Mercer’s membership with immediate effect, citing “behavior grossly contrary to community decency.”

Diane’s phone rang incessantly with calls from former friends telling her never to contact them again. Local news vans parked outside her condominium, cameras pointed at her windows, waiting for a statement from the “Cake-Smasher Grandmother.”
Diane Mercer had tried to destroy my reputation. Instead, she had broadcast her own cruelty to the entire world.
