Chapter 8 - The Forensic Audit of a Traitor: Stolen Code, Secret Accounts, and a Leased Ferrari

By Wednesday afternoon, Marcus and his forensic cybersecurity team had completed their full-system diagnostic of every device, network connection, and digital footprint Preston had touched over the preceding three years.
I sat in our high-security operations center on the third floor of Ironvale’s Sunnyvale complex, reviewing the final 120-page audit report.
What the investigation revealed was not just a case of an arrogant husband stealing corporate files; it was a systematic, three-year campaign of parasitic embezzlement and intellectual sabotage.
Marcus brought up a timeline on the main command display:
September 2021: Preston established an unauthorized secondary line of credit against our private aircraft management LLC, extracting $420,000 to lease a 2022 Ferrari Roma and a 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 under a shell entity named PV Luxury Holdings.
June 2022 – January 2024: Preston diverted $1.2 million from our family philanthropic foundation into private offshore merchant accounts in Belize, using the funds to pay for luxury penthouse rentals in Miami, five-star hotel suites in Paris, and high-end jewelry purchases for three different mistresses preceding Marissa Lane.
March 2024: Preston established direct contact with Cerebro Dynamics—a state-backed enterprise software competitor based in Singapore—offering to provide the uncompiled raw source code for Ironvale’s NextGen Sentinel kernel in exchange for a guaranteed ten-million-dollar offshore payment and a five-year executive employment contract in Southeast Asia.
“He was planning to abandon you entirely, Eliza,” Marcus explained, highlighting a series of decrypted WhatsApp chats between Preston and a corporate broker in Singapore. “His plan was to secure the five million from Vanguard Apex on Friday, download the complete kernel from Vault Alpha over the weekend, fly to Singapore with Marissa on Tuesday morning using a commercial flight under false names, and leave you to deal with the corporate collapse and federal fallout.”
I stared at the chat logs.
Preston had written to the Singapore broker:
“My wife is completely oblivious. She spends all her time in engineering reviews. By the time she realizes the architecture is gone, I will be out of US jurisdiction with the core IP. She won't dare come after me because the scandal would destroy Ironvale’s defense clearance.”
He had calculated everything—except the fact that I was a master cybersecurity architect who monitored every bit and byte flowing through my network.
He thought my quiet dedication to my work was stupidity.
He thought my patience was blindness.
He had confused my grace with weakness, and that fatal miscalculation was about to cost him his freedom.
“Marcus,” I said, closing the report. “Have our legal team package this entire audit—including the Singapore chat logs, the Belize offshore wire receipts, and the uncompiled source code fragments found on his personal drives—and deliver it directly to Assistant United States Attorney Gregory Vance (no relation) at the Federal Building in San Jose.”

“It’s already queued for transmission, Eliza,” Marcus replied.
“Good,” I said. “Let the Department of Justice handle the rest.”
