Part 10: The Horizon

Two years later, I sat on the beach with Hannah and Owen. The ocean stretched out before us, a vast, open expanse that felt like the life we were finally living. Owen was digging in the sand, his laughter carrying on the breeze.
Hannah leaned her head on my shoulder, her hand interlaced with mine.
"Do you ever think about her?" she asked.
"Not really," I said. "I think about who we are now. I think about the life we've built."
We were different people. We had been forged in the fire of her deception, but we had come out stronger. We had learned that love wasn't a transaction, and family wasn't a trap.
We watched the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in colors I couldn't have even imagined a few years ago. We were free. And for the first time, I knew that no matter what happened next, we would face it together—not as puppets, not as victims, but as partners.
