Chapter 15 - The Only Focus That Matters

That evening, the Blake Gallery held its private opening night.
The space was filled with art critics, gallery curators, and ordinary people from the neighborhood. There were no armed guards at the doors, no whispers of violence, and no secrets lurking in the corners.
Adriana moved through the room, answering questions about shutter speeds, composition, and lighting. She wore a simple black dress, her hair flowing naturally over her shoulders, her smile bright and completely genuine.
Whenever she looked across the room, she found Victor’s eyes already waiting for hers.
He stood near the corner of the gallery, watching her with unmasked pride and devotion. He didn't dominate the room; he supported it, a pillar of quiet strength that gave her the freedom to shine.
When the guests finally departed and the gallery lights were dimmed to a soft, golden glow, Victor walked over and locked the front door behind them.
Adriana was sitting on the edge of the reception desk, nursing a glass of wine, her boots kicked off.
“Tired?” Victor asked, walking up and resting his hands on either side of her hips on the desk.
“Exhilarated,” she answered, looking up at him through her lashes. “For the first time in my life, I feel like every photograph I take is exactly where it’s supposed to be.”
Victor leaned in, resting his forehead against hers, his hands sliding up to cup her face with breathtaking tenderness.
“When you walked into my penthouse three weeks ago,” Victor whispered, “I thought my life was about control, power, and surviving the next betrayal.”
He kissed the corner of her lips, then the soft curve of her jaw.
“You taught me that power means nothing if you have nobody to share the truth with. You looked directly at me when the rest of the world looked away.”
Adriana reached up, framing his strong jaw with her hands, feeling the steady, powerful beat of his heart.
“I told you that first night, Victor... I look at things closely. And from the moment I saw you, I never wanted to look at anyone else.”
Victor pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss that sealed everything they had fought for, everything they had survived, and everything they were building together.
When they finally broke apart, breathless in the warm glow of the gallery, Victor smiled against her lips.
“I asked for a supermodel for one night,” he murmured, his eyes shining with pure love and devotion.
“And what did you get?” Adriana asked, her heart overflowing with joy.
Victor held her close against his chest, knowing with absolute certainty that his search was over forever.
